People moving to Assam from outlying states will have to undergo a mandatory home quarantine for seven days amid the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the state.
The state government said in a notification on Wednesday, “All passengers arriving from out-of-state flights and trains must compulsorily undergo home quarantine for seven days, even if the COVID test results are negative.”
However, government officials, those traveling for medical reasons and those visiting the state in connection with bereavement will be exempted from this, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reported.
Dibrugarh University to Hold UG/PG Examinations In Offline Mode

Assam- In spite of the novel coronavirus take an upward spiral in the state of Assam, Dibrugarh University has announced that it would conduct the undergraduate and postgraduate examinations in an offline mode.
Both regional and distant courses will have to undertake the offline mode of examinations for the undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
This decision to conduct the examinations in offline mode was announced after an official notification was signed by the controller of the examination in charge of Dibrugarh University Mr. A Baruah.

The situation in Assam remains grave as the state reported 639 fresh cases and six fatalities due to the infection within 24 hours.

GUWAHATI: The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has exposed glaring gaps in medical facilities across India as several states reported a shortage of hospital beds, oxygen supply, and even medicines for Covid-19 treatment with the rapid increase in Covid-19 cases.
India on Monday has recorded its highest-ever daily spike of over 2.73 lakh new Covid-19 cases, the Union Health Ministry said. With the 2,73,810 fresh Covid-19 cases in the country in the last 24 hours, the total tally reached 1,50,61,919. India also reported 1,619 fatalities due to the infection in the last 24 hours. With this, the Covid-19 death toll in India climbed to 1,78,769.

Speaking to reporters, he said the BJP-led alliance would get an absolute and comfortable majority in Assam. Prominent BJP leader and Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that the BJP-led coalition will get a comfortable majority in the Assam elections, but may not get the expected 100 seats.
“We had an expectation of winning 100 seats, but may not get that. However I am confident of winning at least 84 seats,” Mr. Sarma said, after offering prayers at the Tripura Sundari Temple in Gomati district.
The Chairman of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) paid a brief visit to the State for offering darshan at the 500-year-old temple in Udaipur town, 56 km south of Agartala.

In view of the rising number of Covid-19 cases, the Assam government on Friday issued a set of new guidelines for the upcoming Rongali Bihu and other festivals in the state.
The notification issued by the Assam Health and Family Welfare department stated that the guidelines have to be strictly adhered to and followed by all the event organisers /visitors/participants of functions and other festivals in the state.
