Search operation on in Assam, Nagaland to trace abducted ONGC staffers

Guwahati, April 21 : Security forces in Assam, in association with their counterparts in Nagaland, have launched a massive search operation to locate the three ONGC employees who were abducted by suspected ULFA-I militants in eastern Assam s Sivasagar on Wednesday.
Assam s Special Director General of Police, Law and Order, G.P. Singh is camping at Lakuwa in Sivasagar district to supervise the operations to locate the hostages.
Police officials in Sivasagar said that the terrorists of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) are likely to go to Myanmar with the captives via Mon district in northern Nagaland.

A former Congress MP has sought action against the chairman of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) for allegedly asking the people of Bengali-dominated Barak Valley to secede if unwilling to learn the Assamese language.
In a letter to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday, All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev said AHSEC chairman Dayananda Borgohain’s remark was unacceptable and discriminatory. She also forwarded a video of his “controversial” statement in a tweet tagging the Chief Minister.

Opposition alliance trying to stay visible by creating confusion, he said
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the 10-party Mahajot or grand alliance betrayed signs of frustration by packing some of its candidates off to Rajasthan, citing possible horse-trading by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He was reacting to the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Congress flying out at least 20 of their candidates to Jaipur in a chartered flight on Friday. The Congress and AIUDF are constituents of the Mahajot.
