The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts recipient of major decorative arts endowment

.-The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts announced today the establishment of a significant endowment, the Elizabeth Locke Associate Curator of American Decorative Arts Fund, created by jewelry designer Elizabeth Locke and husband, John Staelin. This endowment marks the couples single largest gift to VMFA to date. Elizabeth and John are longtime supporters of VMFA, having previously contributed to the Change Capital Campaign, which supported the implementation of the museum s strategic plan, and several exhibitions, said Alex Nyerges, VMFAs Director and CEO. Their generous gift is a major investment in the museums decorative arts department and will fund an important new position title at the museum the Elizabeth Locke Associate Curator of American Decorative Arts.

On Sunday, before the team takes on the Utah Jazz, the Sacramento Kings will recognize veteran forward Harrison Barnes with the 2021 Oscar Robertson Triple-Double Award presented by Kaiser Permanente. The award, named after the NBA legend, is given to a Kings player each year who exemplifies excellence on the court and in the community. Barnes has been a vocal advocate for voter rights, addressing systemic racism and investing in Black youth and has generously embraced the critical responsibility of leading philanthropic efforts.

Twenty-seven grant awards were approved for the spring small grant cycle from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation Wednesday.
The Foundation Board of Directors met at Wooden Wheel Vineyards to approve the grants of up to $5,000 each for a total of $122,799 awarded. Board Director Mark Weidman says over 50 applications were received which were evaluated by each of the directors and later by two subcommittees which narrowed the applications down to 27, 18 of them having unanimous approval, “With the nine remaining we had further discussion and there were no further issues, no one had some hard feelings about group one wanted to fund this, group two didn’t. After some minor discussion we all agreed that there were 27 great applications. The number was just a little bit over our goal which is a rough number. The foundation is doing very well financially, the casino is doing great financially, with those things that we took into consideration we decided to fund all 27 applicati
