Oldham auction house doubles operations after moving to larger warehouse Date published: 14 March 2021 Global Auctioneers’ Managing Director Marcel Duffy An Oldham auction house specialising in consumer goods has doubled revenues and workforce after moving to larger premises. Global Auctioneers has big plans after expanding the number of staff from eight to 30 in the last year as customers continue to seek bargains during the pandemic. Launched by Marcel Duffy in 2018, the company re-sells returned and end-of-line retail items including white goods, furniture, fashion, electronics and homeware. The business started operations at a 12,000 sq ft Oldham mill and grew quickly in the first year of trading with revenues of £1.1m in the first 10 months.

A new policing team is working to improve safety in the Piccadilly area and Manchester city centre. Operation Perseus launched in December 2020 as a result of an increase to the city-region s policing precept, resulting in the employment of an additional 325 Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers – meaning almost 1,000 more police officers are working for the force since the Mayor of Greater Manchester was first elected in 2017. The Operation Perseus team are focused on improving safety and combating issues, with a focus on the Piccadilly and Piccadilly Gardens area. Their work supplements a number of policing operations targeting crime committed in the city centre.
