Hyderabad: Elections to the state legislative council barely make noise, as it involves only a tiny sliver of the electorate. However, the upcoming polls to two MLC (member of Legislative Council) seats is witnessing a lot of friction, as it has become a matter of also winning the perception battle for the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
In the upcoming MLC elections are being seen as a direct contest between the ruling TRS and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has been in a strong position ever since it won 55 seats (out of 150) in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections last year. It also shocked the TRS and won the Dubbak by-poll before that.

According to
Indian Express, the latest seroprevalence survey in Hyderabad has revealed that around 54 per cent of the city’s residents have developed antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, indicating prior exposure to the coronavirus. The survey also revealed that more than 75 per cent of the seropositive population did not know they had contracted coronavirus infection in the past.
The NewsMinute reported that the study, which was jointly conducted by CSIR – Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), ICMR – National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) and Bharat Biotech, was aimed at estimating the seroprevalence of antibodies against the coronavirus in Hyderabad.
HC directs officials to curb unauthorised construction activity there
Telangana High Court on Thursday instructed the Telangana State Housing Board (TSHB) authorities and the Commissioner Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to conduct a joint inspection looking out for illegal structures in Kukatpally Housing Board Colony Phase-III.
If any illegal structures were found, the Housing Board officials and GHMC should immediately serve notices to the persons concerned calling for their explanation, the HC said. Officers of the two departments should also restrain private persons from undertaking any unauthorised construction activity there.
