TOWER- The calendar is an odd sort of beast for Ryan VerNess, course superintendent at The Wilderness golf course at Fortune Bay Resort Casino. Spring begins in the fall, as it must if the championship-level destination layout is to meet the high expectations of those teeing up balls for the May 7 season opener.
“The way you put it to bed dictates how it will wake up in the spring,” VerNess said.

The future bride, a 2000 graduate of Mountain Iron-Buhl High School in Mountain Iron, graduated from St. Cloud (Minn.) State University in 2004 with a bachelor s degree in early childhood education. She is a bartender at BG s Bar & Grill in Mountain Iron.

An employee stole more than $315,000 from a northern Minnesota casino over more than six years, according to federal charges.
Jennifer L. Boutto, 32, of Willow Valley Township, Minn., was charged Monday in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis with embezzlement and theft from an Indian tribal organization.
The alleged embezzlement of $315,739.87 from the Fortune Bay Resort and Casino in Tower stretched from June 2013 to October 2019, according to the U.S. Attorney s Office.
Fortune Bay is operated by the Bois Fort Band of Chippewa.
