How Remi Tinubu s Signal Influenced Voting on Electronic Transfer of Results

Kingsley Nwezeh in Abuja and Segun James in Lagos With a cryptic signal message, the decision, last week, by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House Representatives to vote against electronic transmission of results in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, might have been influenced by Senator Oluremi Tinubu. By implication, the senator representing Lagos Central in the upper chamber of the legislature, it was believed, subtly passed on the message of her husband and one of the national leaders of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by voting against electronic transfer of results. A member of the House of Representatives from Chinkun/Kajuru Federal Constituency area of Kaduna State, Hon Yakubu Barde, who identified the role of the APC leader in the voting pattern of the lower chamber of the National Assembly, described the moment the game changed as akin to the biblical anecdote of the âvoice of Jacob and hand of Esauâ.

Court restrains APC, others over moves to impeach Zamfara dep gov

Justice Obiora Egwuatu, in an ex parte application, ordered the lawmakers not to take further steps with regards to the impeachment process against Gusau including his reported arrest. Counsel to PDP, Ogwu Onoja (SAN) had sought the court’s order restraining the constitution of any panel for the purposes of investigating Gusau over his refusal to decamp to another political party other than the party that brought him to office. The court also restrained the Chief Judge of Zamfara State from constituting any panel, while also restraining other defendants such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC, Senate President, Speaker of House of Representatives, Speaker of Zamfara State House of Assembly and Governor Bello Matawalle.
