The percentage of COVID-19 inpatients in the Abilene trauma service area was 2.02% Tuesday, compared to 2.29% Monday and 1.96% Sunday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services COVID-19 website. Hutch Haley has been named the next Lubbock Christian School President(Rockwall ISD staff website) The appointment of the new school President was after a unanimous vote on Saturday, May 1. They voted to appoint Hutch Haley, who is a Lubbock native and a 1978 graduate of Lubbock Christian Schools. He spent 17 of his 30 years in education at LCS where he was an economics teacher, head girls basketball coach, head football coach, athletic director and director of transportation.

COVID-19: Taylor County adds 1 death, 10 cases Wednesday

The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District reported Wednesday one COVID-19-linked death, 10 new cases of the coronavirus and seven recoveries. The deceased – a man in his 70s – brings the county s total number of deaths connected to COVID-19 to 402. The average age of the deceased is 75.  In April, Taylor County has reported 14 COVID-19-linked deaths, compared to 39 in March and 70 in February. The record of 87 was set in December.  Of the 10 new cases, three were confirmed via polymerase chain reaction tests. Active cases total 217 (108 PCR cases and 109 cases confirmed by antigen tests). A week ago, active cases numbered 162.  COVID-19 inpatients at Abilene hospitals total 16, the same as Tuesday. The average age of the inpatients is 58, and seven live outside Taylor County. 

AirFest takes to the skies, this week in Abilene

AirFest takes to the skies, this week in Abilene After missing last year due to the pandemic, the annual Big Country AirFest will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Abilene Regional Airport. The theme will be The Golden Age of Bombers, featuring the B-25 Devil Dog and  other vintage and experimental aircraft. Admission is free, and masks are required. Western Heritage The annual Western Heritage Classic will begin with ranch horse competition at 7 a.m. Thursday at the Taylor County Expo Center, with competitions and trade shows continuing through Saturday.
