While the county continues to see high levels of new cases the numbers are declining a bit. This week’s average daily number of new cases was 331, down from a daily average of 359 last week.
But Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon warned the caseload may surge again if people don’t limit their upcoming holiday gatherings to small immediate family groups.
The three deaths included two more nursing home residents and a 48-year-old man. The county’s coronavirus death toll now stands at 337.

Syracuse, N.Y. – The number of new coronavirus cases in Onondaga County, although high, has declined from the record highs set last week. That’s a sign that a spike in cases attributed to Thanksgiving get-togethers may be receding, County Executive Ryan McMahon said.
The question is, what will Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s bring?

County Executive Ryan McMahon said any improvement in COVID-19 data is at risk of decline if community members do not keep holiday gatherings small.
McMahon said it’s the community’s responsibility to keep virus rates down, and no arguments can be made against economic restrictions until health data improves.
“If you can’t treat your sick, there’s no argument. And people are getting sick from something. If you don’t believe in this process, don’t believe covid is real, who are all these people getting sick” said McMahon.
“So let’s just stop the nonsense with that. Let’s take this seriously going into the week, and we’ll continue to get this curve going in the right direction.”
