Tri-Valley students nominated to military service academies

U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Livermore) hosted a reception last week at Dublin City Hall in honor of the 10 students from his 15th Congressional District who were nominated by his office to attend America’s military service academies.
The high-schoolers recognized included Tri-Valley students Charles Lee, Claire Tsay, Jacob Marnon, Andrew Wang, Lily Holtmeier, Brandon Norton and Yujin Shim. The criteria used to determine the candidates include factors such as academic achievements, leadership ability, extracurricular activities and character, according to Swalwell s office.
The Innovation Tri-Valley Leadership Group this week awarded its annual 10th annual Dreammakers and Risktakers Awards to 20 local students.
According to the organization, the awards recognize âstudent innovators from the Tri-Valley region whose ideas hold the promise to change the world. It showcases the talent and bravery of the next generation and gives the opportunity for civic leaders to recognize them.â
âDuring a year in lockdown our youngest innovators broke-out with empathy, equity and boundless spirit.,â said Lynn Naylor, CEO of the business-led organization. âOur community is inspired by student leaders all across the Tri-Valley who even in tough times lead with grit, technical competence, and the heartfelt desire to make the world a better place.â

Two high school students from the Bay Area were surprised to learn their documentaries were among the winners in C-SPAN s documentary competition.
OAKLAND, Calif. - Two East Bay high school students are among the winners of C-SPAN s national documentary competition called StudentCam.
Agamroop Kaur, a junior at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, recently found out her documentary Big Tobacco Bigger Epidemic placed second place in the west. She won $1,500. I was actually in tears, she said.
C-SPAN said they received about 1,200 entries for students in grades 6-12.

Congressman Eric Swalwell recently named the winners of the Congressional App Challenge (CAC) for Californiaâs 15th Congressional District.
The winners and their projectsâ names are listed below. In this yearâs competition there was a tie for Second Place.
1st Place: Maji, created by Hiya Shah, an 11th-grader at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton.
2nd Place: Attentive, created by Aryan Jain, a 10th-grader at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton.
2nd Place: Dermalogix, created by Anish Kataria and Krish Malik, 10th-graders at Dublin High School.
3rd Place: FoodEase, created by Derek Xu and Vikas Ummadisetty, 12th-graders at Dublin High School.
