Harley-Davidson dealer settles EEOC sex harassment, retaliation lawsuit

Dive Brief: The operators of a defunct Illinois Harley-Davidson dealership have agreed to pay $193,750 to a former employee to settle charges brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) that she was subjected to sexual harassment and retaliation. The employee was subjected to harassment that included repeated propositions for sex, constant commentary on her body, including requests to wear more revealing work apparel, and sharing numerous, unwanted and graphic sexual images and videos, the agency alleged. When the worker complained, the dealership changed her work hours in a way that interfered with her childcare availability and then fired her for fabricated reasons, according to the EEOC.

Lawmakers Provide Window On 2021 Legislative Session

Lawmakers Provide Window On 2021 Legislative Session bjgordon623@gmail.com For more than 50 years the League of Women Voters (LWV), often in conjunction with the American Association of University Women (AAUW), has presented the Legislative Preview prior to the opening session of the New Mexico Legislature. This year the two organizations welcomed the three lawmakers who represent Los Alamos County, Rep. Christine Chandler, Sen. Leo Jaramillo and Sen. Roberto (Bobby) Gonzales. Jaramillo’s district includes the town site and Gonzales represents White Rock as part of his district. Judy Prono moderated the event presented Thursday via Zoom. Due to the pandemic, the plan for the House is to be held nearly all virtual, Chandler said. Speaker of the House Brian Egolf and some staff will be present at the Roundhouse and representatives may attend in person, but the session is closed to the public.

Community Mourns the Loss of Orchestra Manager

Virginia McFann, 88, died on Dec. 26 following a brief illness. Serving as one of the longest-running members of the Livermore-Amador Symphony (LAS) — playing in its first concert in 1963 — McFann was a violinist and the symphony’s orchestra manager. She also was hired as a teacher with a degree in history from UCLA, a special education aid in Livermore, a proud member of the American Association of University Women and a founding member of the LA Symphony and the Association of California Symphony orchestras. But it was McFann’s spirit, spunk and independence that her loved ones remember most. “She was a great companion and a real firecracker,” said longtime friend and fellow symphony member Judy Eckart. “When I first became involved with the LAS, I was told, ‘If you have any questions, ask Virginia McFann. She has all the answers.’ And she did.”
