Gateway faced with hard decisions after bond failure

The measure lost 359 to 291 votes, or 55 percent to 45 percent. The district “is faced with some hard decisions,” admitted Superintendent Theresa Keel. If passed, the bond was to be paid back over 20 years. Parts of the school are more than 100 years old, but 83 percent of the bond was for overall “health and infrastructure issues” Keel told the Belgrade News. The district, at the mouth of the Gallatin Canyon and the Gateway to Yellowstone, has 160 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. “I’m just so disappointed,” she continued. “Now the (1914) building won’t be renovated. Period. We can watch everything deteriorate.” The school had already scheduled a meeting with local historical preservation folk for next week. Will they continue with an historical designation? Is there funding there?

Evinced s Navin Thadani and Gal Moav Are Democratizing the Web for Millions of Overlooked Users

Images: Courtesy subjects Navin Thadani won t ever forget the horrified looks on his engineers faces. It was 2016, and Thadani was a vice president of product development at Oracle. He and his team from Rovello, a recently acquired startup, had built a particularly neat piece of software or so he thought. Someone from the tech giant s accessibility department said the new product was completely inaccessible for anyone with a vision disability. Sure, no problem, Thadani replied, somewhat naively. Forward me the requirements and I ll take a look at it. The requirements, it turned out, presented a serious challenge, so Thadani called in his friend and co-worker Gal Moav, a senior director of product management. Then, they brought in the whole team, none of whom had ever written code to the stringent accessibility standards of a large corporation. It s a very hard problem to solve, Thadani says. Out of all the projects that we had to do around security, integration, and bi

Push For Police Training Follows Violent Arrest Of Elderly Loveland Woman

Loveland Police Department Two Loveland police officers arrested 73-year old Karen Garner after she left a Walmart store last summer without paying for some items. Police departments across the country are under pressure to change, following protests last summer and multiple high-profile police shootings. In Loveland, after body camera footage showing the violent arrest of a woman with dementia came out last month, some believe the answer is more police training. “I’ve been talking to many elderly people in my neighborhood, especially women, that are now seriously and I’m not joking they are now seriously afraid of the police department,” Loveland resident June Dreith said to Chief Robert Ticer during a police citizen advisory commission meeting on Monday.
