Govt issues guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination of civil aviation community ANI | Updated: May 06, 2021 18:27 IST New Delhi [India], May 6 (ANI): The Ministry of Civil Aviation on Thursday issued guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination of the Civil Aviation Community in a fast and efficient manner. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has issued enabling guidelines to facilitate the vaccination program in a fast and efficient manner to ensure timely vaccination of the aviation community , read a release by the ministry. The Secretary, Civil Aviation sent a letter earlier to all the State Governments with a request to consider the personnel involved in aviation and related services as a priority group under the vaccination program.

These entities have been granted conditional exemption from the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Rules, 2021, the government said in a release. The government hopes that these trials will help create a framework for future applications using drones such as drone deliveries. On April 30, MediaNama reported that the Central government permitted educational institutions and other government bodies to take up “beyond the visual line of sight” (BVLOS) operations, provided that they meet the criteria of the Directorate General Of Civil Aviation. The decision was taken after the Ministry of Civil Aviation received a myriad of proposals with regard to the use of drones to deliver COVID19 vaccines.

Citing an increase in novel coronavirus variants, the Civil Aviation Ministry said that the ban will come into effect from April 15. The official letter also stated that when the scheduled domestic flights were resumed on May 25 after the COVID-19 cases surge in 2020, the ministry had allowed serving in-flight meals under specific conditions.

These guidelines will supersede all guidelines issued on the subject since  August 2, 2020. This Standard Operating Procedure shall be valid w.e.f. 22nd February 2021 (23.59 Hrs IST) till further orders, MoCA said.
