A Regina company specializing in motorsports sales and service has been fined in relation to an employee’s work-related snowmobile death in 2018.
According to information from the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, Alsport Sales Inc. pleaded guilty at Regina Provincial Court on Jan. 12 to an offence under The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

The charge stems from a Feb. 14, 2018 incident near Pilot Butte in which an unnamed worker was fatally injured after being thrown from a snowmobile.
SASKATOON Saskatoon company Sommer Green Forages was fined $70,000 after a workplace death on Oct. 25, 2019. The incident happened near Broderick, according to a news release from the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety. While clearing the teeth on the roller of a baler the worker became entangled, resulting in the worker’s death, the release said. The company pleaded guilty Dec. 17, 2020 in Outlook Provincial Court to one count under The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996. Three other charges were stayed.

The guilty plea was entered on Oct. 14. On December 11, the court imposed a fine of $10,000, along with a $4,000 surcharge, for a total fine of $14,000. The violation stemmed from an incident that occurred on Sept. 20, 2018, near Wawota. A load of material fell from the forks of a skid steer, injuring a worker. Employers are required to provide safe and healthy workplaces, and must provide information, training and experience necessary for employees to perform their jobs safely.
