Covid: Sarawak s small businesses urged to go digital

Reuters KUCHING: The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Medac) has urged small business operators in Sarawak to digitalise their operations to ensure their survival amidst uncertainties of the Covid-19 situation. Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said with the rising cases of Covid-19 nationwide and the restricted movement following the implementation of Movement Control Order (MCO) in most part of the country, it is hard to predict when things will go back to pre-pandemic days. He said following his meeting with various groups and organisations representing businesses operators in the state, it is found that most are affected by the current situation.

KiplePay Is Powering WarongKu To Help Bring Small Traders Online

12Shares E-wallet KiplePay is powering the payment system behind WarongKu, a newly launched government initiative and e-commerce platform that’s aimed at bringing small traders online towards contactless and cashless business operations. WarongKu’s goal is to provide 25,000 small traders with their own payment terminals with cashless and contactless payment options by 2022. To date, 3,000 small traders have been equipped with payment terminals, with another 3,500 small traders set to join their ranks in the next batch. Once these small traders – such as gerai, warong, and restaurants – set up an online shop on WarongKu, they’ll have access to cashless transactions thanks to KiplePay payment terminals and gateway. Consumers can pay using any of their preferred e-wallet providers, including the KiplePay e-wallet.

Warongku platform targets 3,500 entrepreneurs to benefit from RM3 11 million allocation

KUALA LUMPUR (April 25): A total of 3,500 entrepreneurs are targeted to benefit from a RM3.11 million allocation from the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC) and SME Corp Malaysia through the Warongku platform. Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said of the target number of entrepreneurs, 2,000 hawkers and small traders have already joined the Warongku platform as e-merchants while the remaining 1,500 are being sought. Warongku is under the Hawker and Trader Development Programme via the Smart Digital Terminal spearheaded by MEDAC through its agency, SME Corp Malaysia. It is a continuation of the e-runner project, ie. Warong Rider .
