Opposition presents its proposals for recovery and resilience spending

Slovenia Times 18. February, 2021 Ljubljana – The four opposition parties from the Constitutional Arch Coalition (KUL) presented on Wednesday their proposal on how Slovenia should spend EU recovery and resilience funds as they filed a request for a plenary session to discuss Slovenia’s national recovery and resilience plan, a document required to draw EUR 5.2 billion in EU recovery funds. “The government’s secret model of Slovenia’s development is asphalt and concrete, which will be very hard to make green let alone digital,” said SocDem MP Franc Trček. “We have an alternative programme for Slovenia’s development. We want a serious debate to be conducted on this, similarly as in other European countries,” he said.

Analysts divided on whether govt will finish its term

Slovenia Times 17. February, 2021 Ljubljana – After yesterday’s failed vote of no confidence in the government, political analysts seem to be divided as to what this means for the coalition. While Rok Čakš believes it has made the coalition more stable and that this marks the end of attempts to bring down the government, Aljaž Pengov Bitenc expect more ouster motions. The Janez Janša government survived a motion of no confidence last night as only 40 MPs voted in favour in a secret ballot, six too few. There were seven votes against and six invalid ballots, whereas the majority of the coalition MPs did not pick up the ballots.
