The move comes following increased bed requirement faced during Covid pandemic, to facilitate specialised treatments such as knee, joint replacements, and dialysis facility. The additional beds will be set up in a new building to be built at a cost of about Rs 10-12 crore and is expected to be ready by next year. NOIDA: The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) has decided to conduct its training camp on paediatric healthcare once a week from now. Earlier, the camp was being held twice a week.
About 35 people have been trained at each of the seven sessions organised so far. The two-day programmes were held from Monday to Tuesday and Thursday to Friday earlier. The staff at GIMS as well as private participants are getting busy with regular patients and fewer of them can attend the training sessions, officials have said.
“According to the course structure, about 80% of the training is practical so that healthcare workers are able to handle patients in the paediatric department,” said Dr Brigadier (retired) Rakesh Gupta, director, GIMS. He added that while 20% of the trainees are doctors, the rest are nurses and paramedical staff. The sessions are free for government staff and Rs 1,500 is being charged from each private staff member.

The administration has kept 100 beds each reserved at the Child PGI and the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS). Another 250-bed Noida Covid Hospital is vacant now and its capacity can be increased if cases begin to rise suddenly.
Two community health centres in Bhangel and Jewar have been turned into 50-bed facilities. About 500 beds are readily available in government facilities for Covid patients.
