Says majority of variants more prevalent in this part of UT

JAMMU, May 12: Unraveling the mystery behind maximum COVID-19 related deaths in Jammu province during the 2021 surge, Apex Level Advisory Committee has pointed out that majority of the variants of the disease and Indian Double Mutant are more prevalent in this part of the Union Territory as compared to Kashmir region because of several reasons.
Accordingly, it has suggested that strict enforcement of COVID appropriate behavior and intensification of vaccination drive are imperative steps to effectively fight the surge and control the prevailing worrisome situation.
Quoting the findings of the Apex Level Advisory Committee, official sources told EXCELSIOR that of the 306 samples sent from Government Medical College Jammu, sequences from 228 samples had been generated and the reasons for the inability to sequence other samples included either poor quality of samples or insufficient volume of the samples.

NEW DELHI/JAMMU, May 12: Union Minister of State(Independent Charge) for DoNER, MoS in Prime Minister’s Office; Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today called for audit of oxygen cylinders and ventilators in the Government Medical College Jammu to ensure equitable distribution for needy patients.
He said, even a single death due to alleged unavailability of Oxygen causes tremendous social unrest and negates all the other good work done if any. A confidence building message has to go out loud and clear that a premier institution like GMC Jammu will ensure that not a single death occurs on account of Oxygen unavailability, he added.

Dr Shashi Sudan also urged people to cooperate with health authorities to prevent the spread of the virus.

JAMMU: Variants of the coronavirus are mutating at a rapid rate due to availability of a large number of hosts and therefore, it becomes necessary for people to get vaccinated and take all precautions, Government Medical College principal Dr Shashi Sudan said on Monday.

Dr Wani further said that laying in prone position for longer duration can also help increase blood oxygen saturation. Prone position is a body position in which the person lies flat with the chest down and the back up. ‘If the oxygen saturation levels fall below 90, it is time to get hospitalised and get expert treatment’, warns the Professor.

The public is also informed that JK Government has launched a live phone-in health programme on Gulistan channel which will air twice daily- from 8:30 am to 9:00 am and 8:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Eminent doctors would take public phone calls during the show and anybody from the public could call on the above mentioned Divisional Control Room phone numbers and seek information related to Covid treatment, home isolation and other non-Covid health
