As students of Classes 10 and 12 return to school after months of digital classes for doubt clearing, revision, and practicals ahead of the public examinations in March, they may require help to make a smooth transition to offline mode, particularly when it comes to restricting gadget use. Sample of Madurai patient returns negative for new variant
With the State sending 42 samples for genomic analysis to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan on Thursday said arrangements were being made to send samples to two national institutes in Bengaluru National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences and National Centre for Biological Sciences to expedite the process.
“We had earlier sent 30 samples of U.K. returnees and their contacts who had tested positive for COVID-19 to NIV, Pune, for genomic analysis. Another 10 samples were sent on Wednesday, and two more on Thursday. As the next step, we spoke to the Central government and got the authorisation to send the samples to the two national institutes in Bengaluru to expedite the works,” he told reporters. 616 locally acquired infections; 718 recoveries
A daily test positivity rate of 11.33% was reported in Kozhikode district on Wednesday when 638 of the 5,628 samples tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.
According to the District Medical Officer, there were 616 locally acquired infections while the source of 13 others was not known. Kozhikode Corporation had 102 cases of local transmission, Vadakara 38, Kuruvattoor 33, Eramala 27, Koduvally 26, Chorod 23, and Mukkom 22. There were 718 recoveries and the active caseload stands at 6,209.
Meanwhile, three deaths were reported at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, on Wednesday and two others died on Tuesday.
In Wayanad
A total of 267 people, including two health workers, tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in Wayanad district on Wednesday, taking the total number of active cases to 2,488.

As many as 507 people tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in Kozhikode district on Tuesday and there were 645 recoveries.
According to the District Medical Officer, there were 475 locally acquired infections and the source was unknown in 22 cases. Kozhikode Corporation had the highest number of local transmission cases at 111. Payyoli had 22 and Thikkodi and Omassery 18 each. A total of 5,786 samples were tested. The active case load from Kozhikode district stands at 6,280. Two deaths were reported at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, on Tuesday and five others on Monday.

Nagpur: A 35-year-old man from Nagpur s Narendra Nagar is confused as well as frustrated as his sample tested negative in RTPCR at the Government Medical College Hospital, while a private lab said that he is COVID-19 positive within a day. The man accused the civic officials that they treated him as the patient with the new strain of the novel coronavirus. However, the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune is yet to confirm it. The man had tested negative in RTPCR at London, before he boarded his flight to India on November 27.
