SALEM: A couple hanged to death after murdering their daughter at their house near Annadhanapatty here on Saturday. Police are yet to ascertain the reason that forced them to take the extreme step.
The Annadhanapatty police identified the deceased as K Gopinath, 31, of Maankuttai area, his wife G Pavithra, 29, and daughter G Nanditha, 5.
A police officer said Gopinath was working with a bakery in the city, while his wife was a homemaker.
He said it was Gopinath s mother K Sengamalam, 60, who first saw the couple hanging from the ceiling of their house. “She went to visit them on Saturday evening. She knocked on the door several times, but there was no response from inside. She waited for around 30 minutes and peeped through the window gap only to see her son and daughter-in-law hanging from the ceiling.”

Final-year nursing students at Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College petitioned the district collector in Salem on Saturday, complaining about lack of treatment to those of them affected with COVID-19.
The students said though final -year students have been deployed for COVID-19 duty as part of their internship, they have not been provided with necessary assistance or treatment support from the College. The students complained that four students have got affected due to the disease in the past few days but they were not provided with

Three COVID-19 patients, who were waiting at the triage zone of the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital in Salem, died on Wednesday. However, Dean R. Murugeshan said he was not aware of the issue and that all the 800 beds in the COVID-19 block were occupied.
Sources in the hospital said that a 52-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were waiting in ambulances while a 35-year-old woman was waiting in an autorickshaw near the zone. However, all the three patients died before being admitted to the hospital. On May 4, three COVID-19 patients died while waiting at the zone.

Relatives of Covid patients line up across the state for Remdesivir on Monday
CHENNAI: Protests, long queues, heated exchange of words between disappointed kin and Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC) officials and allegations of hoarding marked the sale of antiviral drug remdesivir across the state on Monday.
TNMSC data shows the counter at Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital in Chennai sold 1,500 vials of the drug, followed by 560 in Coimbatore, 500 in Madurai, 393 in Trichy and 300 each in Salem and Tirunelveli, all at MRP. However, many continued to purchase it in the black market, with one person at a private hospital in Chennai shelling out ₹30,000 per vial.
