It’s impossible to convince Honda/Acura fans that similar cars built by other brands could be just as good or even better than their beloved NSX. The same can be said about hardcore Corvette enthusiasts.
For those who don’t fit in either category and simply want to buy a great mid-engine sports car without spending Ferrari money, these two models should definitely make their list. The 2021 Acura TLX Type S will finally hit the market on June 23rd and journalists have now started to test drive the sports sedan for the very first time.
We’ve included a handful of TLX Type S reviews below but the review from The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah is especially relevant given the veteran journalist’s experience with driving performance cars (not something that can be said about some of his fellow YouTube ‘influencers’).
The headline of the TLX Type S is a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that pumps out 355 hp and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled to a ten-speed automatic transmission that allows the sedan to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in roughly 5 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
A lot has changed since Acura offered its last Type S model over a decade ago. Tesla's EVs have plundered a sizable chunk of market share, Korean manufacturers have stormed the near-luxury and luxury segments, and Acura, in an effort to restore the luster of their once-revered nameplate, rebooted the legendary NSX as a hybrid-powered supercar halo with the hopes that desirability (and some hardware) will trickle down into the rest of the lineup. Just don't expect it to be as track-worthy as a Honda Civic Type R.
