Freight Train Records Speed Of Nearly 100 Kmph On Dedicated Freight Corridor, Runs Faster Than Rajdhani Trains

On Saturday(29 May), goods trains on the Eastern dedicated freight corridor (EDFC) recorded a speed of 99.38 kmph.
Freight trains are running at speeds faster than Rajdhani trains, officials said as per a report in
Moneycontrol.
Three trains ran at an average speed of more than 99 kmph, the fastest speed on the 331-km long New Khurja-New Bhaupur section of the (EDFC), which was inaugurated for operations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 29 December 2020.
The 306 km section between Rewari and Madar on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) was opened on 7 January. To date, 3000 trains have journeyed on EDFC, while 1000 have travelled on WDFC.

Currently, there are 15,291 people working in the biological bubble to carry out the rail laying and other related work to make both the Eastern and Western Corridors fully operational for exclusive freight train operations in the country.
Defying heavy odds, work on the Dedicated Freight Corridor is going on with limited workforce of about 15,000, while goods trains are picking up maximum speed up to 97 kmph on the completed section.

Sustainable mobility provider Alstom has manufactured and supplied the 100
th electric locomotive to the Indian Railways as a part of the Rs 25,000 crore worth contract signed between the two parties.
The manufacturing operation company and the national transporter had agreed on a deal in 2015 that led to the creation of this joint venture for the initiative, which is the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) project of the Railways.
Accordingly, Alstom is slated to deliver 800 completely electric high-powered double-section locomotives of 12,000 (9 MW) that will be used for freight services. It will be capable to haul 6,000 tonne at a speed of 120 km per hour and will be placed for operations on major freight routes that even include the Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC).

New Delhi, April 30 : Almost six years after Alstom signed a contract ro provide 800 fully electric locomotives to India, the company on Friday said that it has delivered the 100th electric locomotive of 12,000 HP to Indian Railways, built in one of India s largest integrated greenfield manufacturing facilities and the country s most powerful made-in-India electric locomotive.

Part of €3.5-billion contract for supply of 800 fully electric high-powered locomotives for freight services
Alstom, a leading global sustainable mobility provider, has delivered its 100th electric locomotive to the Indian Railways.
As part of the contract worth €3.5 billion won in 2015, the company will supply 800 fully electric high-powered double-section locomotives of 12,000 HP (9 MW) for freight services, capable of hauling around 6,000 tonnes at a top speed of 120 km/hr.
This is the largest Foreign Direct Investment project in the Indian Railways sector, a company release said.
With the first Prima T8TM WAG-12B inducted for commercial service in May 2020, these locomotives are deployed for operations on major freight routes. They have clocked close to 5 million km, hauling a wide range of commodities. These locomotives also made the inaugural run on the first fully operational section
