Woman who lost her son and mother in massive Toronto blaze released from hospital

A number of firefighters sustained minor injuries while responding to the blaze. Dennis Kiriopoulos is a close friend of Arija Jansons and is helping to communicate updates about fundraising efforts for the families affected by the fire. Kiriopoulos told CTV News Toronto that Jansons was released from hospital on Tuesday. He said Jansons is staying with loved ones where she is recovering from her injuries, which include scratches, burns and the effects of smoke inhalation. Kiriopoulos said 11 people have been displaced by the fire. Jacobis, who was released from hospital shortly after being admitted, spoke to CTV News Toronto on Tuesday about escaping the blaze and the heroic actions of his friend Zdybal.

Perth County OPP is searching for suspects they say stole items from the scene of the fire at the Forest Motel. The motel, east of Stratford, was destroyed in a fire last Tuesday. Police say then sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning, suspects entered the damaged building and stole items including a clock, alcohol, and gasoline. The scene had been cleared by police and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and was unoccupied at the time of the theft.

UPDATE: One person seriously injured in fire at Forest Motel SHARE ON: UPDATE: 2:49 p.m. Tuesday One person is recovering from serious injuries and a motel just east of Stratford has been completely destroyed by fire. Fire Prevention Officer James Marshall tells MyStratfordNow.com the Forest Motel is a complete write off after a fire broke out at it on Tuesday morning. First responders were called to the motel around 9:30 Tuesday morning and they found the structure fully engulfed in flames on arrival. Marshall says one person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and adds the heavy snow falling helped drive the flames through the building’s roof.

  KITCHENER A fire at a motel just east of Stratford has left one person seriously hurt. Fire crews reported that they were responding to the fire just before 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, calling it a working structure fire on Forest Road in Perth East. One person taken to local hospital with serious injuries, the post read in part. Crews were at the scene all day Tuesday to battle the blaze. Flames and smoke could be seen billowing from the roof of the Forest Motel when crews arrived. We re still investigating how many rooms were rented, Perth East Fire Chief Bill Hunter said.
