After an investigation by the Georgia Department of Corrections that was prompted by an incident last month, six correctional staff members at Georgia State Prison in Reidsville have been arrested, charged with aggravated battery and violation of oath of office, and have been terminated.
The GDC announced today the arrests of the correctional staff members for their role in a use-of-force incident, following an inmate assault on a fellow Correctional Officer. The incident occurred at Georgia State Prison on February 16 and prompted the investigation by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards, ultimately leading to the arrests.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The family of two children who were hurt in a high speed police chase are now suing the City of Cleveland.
Zandra Mason filed the lawsuit on behalf of her 13-year-old twins, Zelda and Zachery Mason.
The twins witnessed their friend Tamia Chappman being hit and killed by a car during a police chase from Cleveland to East Cleveland on Dec. 20, 2019.
The plan
The five-page draft spends the first page-and-a-half going over the governor’s executive order, mentions a survey “already offered to gather input from the community,” and encourages the public to “submit their constructive comments relative to the plan” to [email protected].
The draft then lists nine numbered points. The first explains that the sheriff’s office has been a New York State accredited police agency since 2003 and plans to continue “its efforts to exceed those standards whenever possible.”
Second, the office’s mission statement is to be “updated to formally reflect its established recognition that principled policing practices and training are a core belief and a guiding principle.”

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A former sheriff’s deputy in South Carolina has been charged for his alleged role in a July incident where he was accused of unlawfully arresting someone, leaving that person injured.
Ryan Andrew Gibson, 29, of Greer, was charged Friday with assault and battery third-degree, misconduct and misconduct in office, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation after community activist Traci Fant reached out about the procedure for filing a formal complaint against Gibson, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
