Albany County Health Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Whalen was honored with the Donald Led Duke Heart Hero Award.
The award recognizes people who work to make the Capital Region a better place to live.
Dr. Whalen is being honored for her work during the pandemic, and her longstanding commitment to heart and brain health.
She says the partnership between the Heart Association and the Albany County Health Department is essential.

ALBANY, N.Y. â During his Friday morning press briefing, Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy continued the push to find more creative ways to get additional people vaccinated.
As of Thursday, 53.2% of Albany County s population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 40% have been fully vaccinated. The statewide rate is 45.6% for the first dose and the full vaccination rate at 33.4%.
In total, Albany County has administered or reallocated 57,497 first and second doses of the vaccine to date.
- Advertisement - So we ve been talking about this, we ve been going back and forth and we ve got to reimagine how we re getting the vaccine out to people, trying to engage that certain population now that has the vaccine hesitation or doesn t want to receive the shot. So we re going to be coming up with a lot of different ideas and initiatives, McCoy remarked on attempting to craft incentives for people to become vaccinated.

ALBANY, N.Y. â Philip Calderone, CEO of the Albany County Airport Authority recently announced that the Albany International Airport has begun testing UV-C Light smartphone sanitizing equipment for use by the traveling public. The Cleanslate phone sanitizers have been placed in three locations in the terminal. Smartphones have been shown to carry a variety of viruses and bacteria that can be easily transferred to other touch surfaces. The installation of the UV-C Light cell phone sanitizers is one more step in the Airport Authority s goal of maintaining a safe, COVID-free environment for our air travelers and our staff, Calderone stated.
