COLONIE, N.Y. â Colonie Center hosted Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy, Senator Neil Breslin, Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy, Assemblyman John T. McDonald III, as well as area nurses to recognize the hard work that these front line workers have been doing during the pandemic, and always, on National Nurses Day.
The County Executive delivered a proclamation in recognition of the nurses.
âIn Albany County hospitals alone, there are over 6,000 nurses who work tirelessly to help the sick and the injured, and this doesnât account for the others serving at physiciansâ offices, schools, nursing homes and all across our community. They have volunteered as part of our Medical Reserve Corps,â McCoy stated.
ALBANY, N.Y. â Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy and Albany County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Whalen appealed to younger age groups to become vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
The push comes at the FDA is expected to authorize the vaccine for those age 12 to 15 next week. The push is part of an effort to get children and teens back to participating in activities they love with their friends and families. We need more and more kids to get vaccinated, McCoy remarked.
- Advertisement - If schools and I say this to the parents and all the sports coaches out there and I ve said this before, please educate your players, get them vaccinated because we can get back to some type of normalcy in the fall for the kids and they don t miss graduations and proms and everything else, McCoy explained on the importance of reasons why to vaccinate.

McCoy continued to encourage people to become vaccinated against the virus. The county executive also implored people to share their stories and educate vaccine-hesitant people on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines. We need your help. We need to continue to do the right thing to open up and to get back to somewhat normalcy or where we were at pre-COVID, McCoy said on the need for people to become vaccinated.

As of Sunday, 54.2% of Albany Countyâs population has received at least the first dose of the vaccine, and 41.5% have been fully vaccinated. Statewide, the first dose vaccination rate is 46.5%, and the full vaccination rate is 34.9%.
ALBANY, N.Y. â During his Friday morning press briefing, Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy continued the push to find more creative ways to get additional people vaccinated.
As of Thursday, 53.2% of Albany County s population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 40% have been fully vaccinated. The statewide rate is 45.6% for the first dose and the full vaccination rate at 33.4%.
In total, Albany County has administered or reallocated 57,497 first and second doses of the vaccine to date.
- Advertisement - So we ve been talking about this, we ve been going back and forth and we ve got to reimagine how we re getting the vaccine out to people, trying to engage that certain population now that has the vaccine hesitation or doesn t want to receive the shot. So we re going to be coming up with a lot of different ideas and initiatives, McCoy remarked on attempting to craft incentives for people to become vaccinated.
