Andrew Cuomo said Monday. The latest incremental return to normalcy for New York’s public places comes amid continued progress against the COVID-19 pandemic that has infected more than 2 million New Yorkers and killed more than 41,000. The seven-day positive COVID test rate is down to 2.1% statewide and the number of COVID-positive inpatients at hospitals statewide dropped to 3,174 on Sunday. The last time either number was so low was in November. Cuomo said continued reopening depends on continued progress.

ALBANY, N.Y. — Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy and Albany County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Whalen once again expressed their concerns regarding the number of people still yet to become vaccinated against COVID-19. While there s a robust supply of vaccine, the demands in certain segments of the population have alarmingly tailed off. The two discussed the need to shift strategies in order to reach more people with the vaccine. “We continue to move closer to herd immunity, but we’re not seeing that progress across the board for all county zip codes. There are some areas with much higher rates: The Slingerlands area has a first dose vaccination rate of nearly 69%, and the Albany and Loudonville areas are at over 66%. However, zip codes with a majority of minority populations and more rural communities have much lower vaccination rates, which is something we need to address,” McCoy stated.

Whalen: Vaccination takes away the uncertainty

Albany County officials call for vaccine distribution to expand to local doctor s offices

ALBANY, N.Y. — Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy discussed the latest information regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The County Executive detailed the county s vaccination progress. He also advocated for the ability of local doctor s offices to receive vaccines doses to vaccinate their patients in a more comfortable and familiar setting. Thus far in Albany County, 47.3% of the population has received at least the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 33.3% have been fully vaccinated. Comparatively, the statewide first dose vaccination rate is 39.6%, and full vaccination rate is 26.4%. - Advertisement - As of Friday, Albany County has administered or reallocated 51,046 first and second doses.
