BIRMINGHAM The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office released information about several deadly crashes on Birmingham-area interstates.
On Friday, March 12, 2021, a Thorsby man was killed after a crash on Interstate 65 North. The crash happened around 6:20 a.m. near mile-marker 257, at Green Springs Avenue South, in Birmingham. Juan Jose Madina Torres, 46, was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead three hours later. The Birmingham Police Department is investigating.
An Adamsville man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday, March 13, 2021, on Interstate 59 South. James Edward Henderson, 74, was pronounced dead on the scene near mile-marker 115, at the Allison Bonnett Memorial Drive exit. The crash happened at 6:38 p.m.

A woman was killed Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 59/20 in Jefferson County.

Authorities have released the name of a woman who was killed when her vehicle slammed into a parked tractor-trailer on Interstate 59/20 Friday afternoon in Jefferson County.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the woman as Rita Faye Thomas. She was 37 and lived in Vance.
Authorities said the 18-wheeler was stopped on the shoulder when Thomas’ Kia Soul left the roadway for unknown reasons and crashed into the truck. Almost a third of the vehicle was crushed under the truck’s trailer.
