West Allis adopts resolution condemning anti-AAPI violence
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) – On Tuesday, April 20, the West Allis Common Council adopted a resolution condemning violence against Asian American Pacific Islander communities.
“After weeks of contentious debate, I’m so happy that we finally passed this resolution to recognize and support the AAPI community. This resolution is so important because we need to call out and condemn the scapegoating and violence against AAPI folks across our country,” Alderman Angelito Tenorio said in a statement. “Although I wish we would’ve passed it unanimously, I am so proud and deeply grateful for all the people who came to City Hall to speak in favor of the resolution.”

Bill would let Wisconsin AG file civil rights violation lawsuits

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Two Democratic lawmakers introducing a bill Thursday, April 8 that would allow Wisconsin’s attorney general to file lawsuits over civil rights violations.
Wisconsin attorneys general and district attorneys currently lack the authority to bring civil rights action, state Department of Justice spokeswoman Gillian Drummond said.
Under Rep. Jimmy Anderson and Sen. LaTonya Johnson s proposal, the attorney general would be given the authority to investigate civil rights violations and file lawsuits if someone has engaged in a pattern of violating civil rights in housing, employment or education matters.

WAUWATOSA, WI A resolution, in support of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, was passed unanimously during the Wauwatosa Common Council meeting on Tuesday.
The resolution states the city is dedicated to honoring its diversity, including our residents of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, a group that has contributed and continues to contribute to our country s progress, culture, and success.
The resolution acknowledges the documented trend of increased discrimination, hate and violence against the AAPI community exacerbated by false narratives and xenophobia around the coronavirus, the statement said..
