April 26, 2021 (Milwaukee, WI) – May is Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and Milwaukee Repertory Theater is offering several virtual opportunities to hear from AAPI artists and leaders with Making the Invisible Visible: A Celebration of Asian American Pacific Islander Culture, Art & Activism. Given the violent attacks on Asian Americans and in solidarity with #StopAsianHate, Milwaukee Rep is celebrating AAPI culture as part of REP Forward, the theater’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Plan.
West Allis adopts resolution condemning anti-AAPI violence
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) – On Tuesday, April 20, the West Allis Common Council adopted a resolution condemning violence against Asian American Pacific Islander communities.
“After weeks of contentious debate, I’m so happy that we finally passed this resolution to recognize and support the AAPI community. This resolution is so important because we need to call out and condemn the scapegoating and violence against AAPI folks across our country,” Alderman Angelito Tenorio said in a statement. “Although I wish we would’ve passed it unanimously, I am so proud and deeply grateful for all the people who came to City Hall to speak in favor of the resolution.”

WAUWATOSA, WI A resolution, in support of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, was passed unanimously during the Wauwatosa Common Council meeting on Tuesday.
The resolution states the city is dedicated to honoring its diversity, including our residents of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, a group that has contributed and continues to contribute to our country s progress, culture, and success.
The resolution acknowledges the documented trend of increased discrimination, hate and violence against the AAPI community exacerbated by false narratives and xenophobia around the coronavirus, the statement said..

West Allis Common Council denies mask mandate extension

WEST ALLIS, Wis. - The City of West Allis Common Council voted to deny an ordinance requiring face coverings in indoor public spaces by postponing it indefinitely with a vote of 7-2, Wednesday, April 7.
1st District Alderman Angelito Tenorio introduced the ordinance.
Ald. Tenorio said in a release he hoped that passing a mask mandate in West Allis would be one key measure to help fight and defeat this pandemic.
The statewide mask mandate expired on April 7, however, Wisconsin counties and cities can opt to create their own mandates. The City of Milwaukee has said they will continue to require masks. Wauwatosa has also extended its mask mandate through June 16.
