It involved a whopping $1.5 billion upgrade to the three Mon Valley Works plants, all in Pennsylvania the Edgar Thomson Plant in Braddock, the Irvin Plant in West Mifflin and the Clairton Coke Works in Clairton with technology and improvements that would have resulted in cleaner air for all three communities as well as good-paying jobs providing regional prosperity for decades.
On April 30, U.S. Steel said that after months of tug of war with the Allegheny County Health Department, it was canceling the $1.5 billion upgrade and idling three batteries at Clairton Coke Works by 2023.
The free event takes place every Thursday in Market Square.

In a sure sign that summer is almost here, the annual farmers market returns this week to Market Square Downtown.
Now in its 17th season, the free, rain-or-shine event, which is presented by Green Mountain Energy, takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday and offers regionally grown produce, organic products and small-batch foods from a variety of vendors.
As part of Thursday’s opening day celebration, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy also will be on hand to give away free daffodil bulbs while supplies last.

BRADDOCK, Pa. Exactly two years ago, U.S. Steel Corp. announced that the company would turn its Mon Valley Works operations into a key source of lightweight steel for the automotive industry.
At the time, local leaders and company officials called the investment “transformational.”
It involved a whopping $1.5 billion upgrade to the three Mon Valley Works plants, all in Pennsylvania the Edgar Thomson Plant in Braddock, the Irvin Plant in West Mifflin, and the Clairton Coke Works in Clairton with technology and improvements that would have resulted in cleaner air for all three communities, as well as good-paying jobs providing regional prosperity for decades.
The natural gas storage report from the EIA for the week ending April 30th indicated that the amount of natural gas held in underground storage in the US rose by 60 billion cubic feet to 1,958 billion cubic feet by the end of the week, which left our gas supplies 345 billion cubic feet, or 15.0% below the 2,303 billion cubic feet that were in storage on April 30th of last year, and 61 billion cubic feet, or 3.0% below the five-year average of 2,019 billion cubic feet of natural gas that have been in storage as of the 30th of April in recent years..the 60 billion cubic feet that were added to US natural gas storage this week was more than the average forecast of a 51 billion cubic foot addition from an S&P Global Platts survey of analysts, but was well below the average addition of 81 billion cubic feet of natural gas that have typically been injected into natural gas storage during the same week over the past 5 years, as well as well below the 103 billion cubic feet added to natural
