Over 6 million people in Pennsylvania (47.3% of residents) have at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, and more than 3.8 million have been fully vaccinated (30.3% of residents), according to the data posted by the state on Thursday.
And locally, the state reported that 655,660 of Allegheny County residents (53.6%) had received at least one dose of a covid vaccine, while 401,823 individuals are fully covered (32.8%).
In Westmoreland County, the state reported that 150,456 of county residents (41.2%) had received at least one dose, with 102,168 individuals fully covered (27.9%).

Asthma Exacerbations Followed Christmas Eve Coke Works Fire
Asthma exacerbations rose following a catastrophic Christmas Eve fire two years ago that destroyed pollution controls at the Clairton Coke Works the largest such facility in the nation, a University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health analysis concludes.
“In addition to verifying that people living within a 10-mile radius of the coke works had higher rates of asthma exacerbations and use of albuterol rescue medication than those living outside the radius, we learned that nearly half of the people with asthma closest to the fire were unaware of the pollution problem and, therefore, unable to take steps to avoid exposure,” said lead author Brandy Byrwa-Hill, M.S., a Ph.D. student in Pitt Public Health’s Department of Environmental and Occupational Health.

Westmoreland County surpassed 100,000 residents fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to information released Wednesday by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Westmoreland is the 10th county in the state to hit that mark. In total, there are 100,080 fully vaccinated in the county and 49,232 partially vaccinated. Overall in the
