ALBANY – A law enforcement task force combating human trafficking has been formed, headed up by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.
It is comprised of members from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, police departments in the Capital District and includes the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
“We realize there is a need to combat this issue not only in Ulster County but throughout New York State,” said Ulster Sheriff Juan Figueroa. “Human trafficking involves our immigrant communities who are vulnerable to the illegal sex trade and unfair labor practices.”

On Thursday, the City of Kingston Police Department reported the arrest of 37-year-old Raymond A. Snyder of Murray Street in Kingston for second-degree murder and first-degree burglary, felonies.
On July 11, 2020, the Kingston Police Department received a call for shots fired at a home on St. James Street. Uniformed patrol officers responded and found 47-year-old Romero Underwood in the home with an apparent gunshot wound, police say.
He was treated by EMS at the scene and transported to the Broadway campus of the Health Alliance where he succumbed to the injury, police say. The homicide investigation led police to believe Underwood was not a random victim but a target of a crime, the Kingston Police Department said days after the murder.

The attempted rape conviction of a Hudson Valley man has been upheld by the courts during an appeal of his 2019 guilty verdict during a jury trial.
The Ulster County Appellate Division affirmed the conviction last year of Orange County resident Travis Sammeth, age 36, of Newburgh, who was found guilty of attempted rape in a case connected with a sting operation of online predators, said the Ulster County District Attorney David J. Clegg.
His conviction stems from an incident on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, when Sammeth made contact with an undercover police officer working with an FBI task force on the website KIK, an adult website, and through instant messaging, the DA s Office said.

KINGSTON – As of Monday morning, only one inmate out of the 186 housed at the Ulster County Jail has the coronavirus and that individual is isolated in the medical ward.
One corrections officer remains out and is expected to return to work within the next couple of days, said Ulster County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Det. Lt. Abram Markiewicz.
“Barring further incident, this will hopefully mark the end of COVID in our jail staff and population,” he said

Hudson Valley Teen Accused of Stabbing Father

On Monday, detectives of the Ulster County Sheriff s Office reported the arrest of a 17-year-old man from Port Ewen for first-degree assault, a felony and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
On Saturday, Jan. 2, around 7:30 p.m., the Ulster County Sheriff s Office responded to a home in Port Ewen for a report of a stabbing victim, following a domestic dispute with his son, police say. The victim, the teen s father, was treated at the scene and later transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the Ulster County Sheriff s Office reports.
