Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh passed away aged 99. The sad demise of the Duke of Edinburgh was confirmed by The Royal Family with a statement shared on social media. As per the announcement, Prince Philip passed away peacefully on Friday, April 9 morning at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh was reported to be in ill health before his death and was also admitted to hospital days after not feeling well in February. Previously, in December 2019, the Prince had spent four days in the hospital for observation and also was under treatment for an unspecified pre-existing condition. The Prince s passing comes as a shock to many fans and supporters of the Royal family who are now in mourning.
Election campaigning has been suspended by political parties following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer spoke on Friday and agreed to the pause.
Voters will make their decision at the ballot box on May 6, including for council and mayoral positions in England, the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Parliament.
A Conservative Party spokeswoman said: “In light of the sad news from Buckingham Palace all campaigning will be paused until further notice.”
For Labour, a spokesperson said: “As a mark of respect following the sad death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Labour Party has today suspended all campaigning.”

The Queen has announced that he passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
It comes as people are being urged not to attend the royal residence at Balmoral, as coronavirus restrictions continue to be in force.
Councillor Bill Howatson, provost of Aberdeenshire, said: It is with sadness that we learned today of the passing of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip was a regular visitor to Aberdeenshire and found many moments of peace in our landscapes and scenery. The area has such strong connections to the royal family I know that his passing will be mourned locally, nationally and internationally.

THE Mayor of Henley has paid tribute to Prince Philip who passed away this morning.
The Duke of Edinburgh died at the age of 99 at Windsor Castle, after spending nearly a month in hospital.
He initially received care for an infection but then underwent a heart procedure for a pre-existing condition.
Councillor Ken Arlett said: “On behalf of Henley Town Council, Councillors, staff and residents of Henley we send our deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen, and all members of the Royal Family.
“His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh dedicated many years of his life to public service, not only to our own country, but also the Commonwealth, where he was latterly regarded as a great statesman.
