Oman’s humanitarian efforts take centre-stage during COVID-19 pandemic

OHRC has praised the government, civil and military stakeholders for their efforts in handling the coronavirus crisis.
Muscat: Setting up a fund to support Oman’s health services, providing free COVID treatment to Omanis and expatriates in the country, organising a hotline for people to report cases of infection, and bringing home Omani nationals stranded overseas are some of the efforts of the government that have been praised by the Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) in its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The commission also personally intervened in 70 instances of people who required emergency assistance in 2020, owing to the pandemic. These were related to providing help in the form of housing, family support, resolving labour disputes, child welfare, urgent healthcare, and many others.
HH Sayyid Asa’ad bids farewell to Uzbek Ambassador

Muscat: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, received in his office here on Monday Anvar Abdukhalimov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the Sultanate to bid him farewell at the end of his tour of duty.
The ambassador expressed his thanks to His Majesty the Sultan for the support extended to him during his tour of duty in the Sultanate from His Majesty, the Government and the Omani people, which enabled him to carry out his assignments. He also wished His Majesty a good health, happiness and a long life, and the Sultanate further progress and growth under the wise leadership of His Majesty.
His Majesty issues Royal Decree

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik today issued a Royal Decree reading as follows:
Royal Decree No. 15/2021 on implementing the “Unified System of Extending Insurance Protection to GCC Military Personnel Operating in GCC Member States Other Than Their Own”.
Article (1) states that the provisions of the “Unified System of Extending Insurance Protection to GCC Military Personnel Operating in GCC Member States Other Than Their Own”, shall be applied in accordance with the version attached to this decree, bearing in mind the following:
1. The provisions of the Law of Post-Service Pensions and Gratuities for Personnel of the Defence Ministry and the Sultan’s Armed Forces”, issued under Royal Decree 3/2002, shall apply to Defence Ministry and Sultan’s Armed Forces’ Omani military personnel operating in GCC military units governed by GCC military retirement systems, from among those who do not get pension from the Sulta
Oman-India relations ‘exemplary’ during pandemic: Indian envoy

Muscat: India’s envoy to Oman has praised the ‘exemplary’ cooperation the two countries have shown during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that his country will always be available to provide assistance when needed.
“We have been working very closely from the very beginning of the pandemic,” said Munu Mahawar.
“Right from the start of the COVID pandemic, our two governments have worked very closely with each other, for the repatriation of people, for travel, for provisioning of all kinds of support.
“There is excellent cooperation between our two countries normally, and during the pandemic, this has been exemplary,” he went on to add.
Minister of Health thanks Indian government for COVID vaccine

The vaccines were handed over to Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi by Munu Mahawar, the ambassador of India to Oman.
Muscat: Oman’s Minister of Health has thanked the government of India for delivering 100,000 vaccines at no charge, to help with the country’s coronavirus vaccination drive.
The doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine were produced by the Serum Institute of India, having undergone clinical trials to ensure they were safe to use on humans. The vaccines were handed over to Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi by Munu Mahawar, the ambassador of India to Oman.
