The Government is focusing this week on two key events that are likely to be in the news for some time to come because of their potential political fallout - the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks in 2019 and the Resolution passed on Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions last week. The Easter Sunday attacks have been the subject of much discussion of late because the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) appointed to probe the heinous attacks, appointed by former President Maithripala Sirisena, submitted its final report to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa recently.

Posted on March 5th, 2021 Courtesy Adaderana The Court of Appeal has directed the Attorney General to present submissions on probes into the import of a large consignment of swords following the Easter Sunday terror attacks, in consultation with the Inspector General of Police and the Defence Secretary. The petition filed by His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith seeking an impartial investigation on the alleged incident was taken up before Appeals Court judges Arjuna Obeysekara and Mayadunne Correa today (March 05). Senior State Counsel Avanthi Perera who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General, said she also represents the IGP and Defence Secretary who were named as the respondents of the petition.
