Senior Mongols MC gang member appears in court after year on the run

A senior Mongols motorcycle gang member arrested after police said he was on the run for nearly a year has appeared in court.
The 27-year-old man, who was granted interim name suppression this morning, was arrested at a Waipara address in North Canterbury just after 4.30pm yesterday.
Detective Inspector Paul Newman of the police national organised crime group said in a statement last night that a MSSA (military-style semi-automatic) firearm was also found at the address.
The man first had warrants for his arrest issued in Auckland last May.

The family of mixed martial arts fighter Fau Vake have asked that he be kept on life support as they pray for a miracle.
Vake, 25, remains in a critical condition in Auckland City Hospital this morning, police confirmed.
A family member told Tongan news site Kaniva News that the family had asked doctors to keep their son and brother on life support as friends and family uplifted him in prayer.

A friend of promising mixed martial arts fighter Fau Vake says he had been waiting for a taxi at the time of an incident that has left him fighting for his life.
The 25-year-old last night remained in a critical condition in Auckland City Hospital after an incident in Auckland central in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Friend Mike Angove, of City Kickboxing, said he had been with the Vake family at hospital until about midnight and that the young man was fighting hard to stay alive.

A $3.6 million home overlooking Ladies Bay Beach in the Auckland suburb of St Heliers was swarmed by the Armed Offenders Squad on the morning of March 17 as the property was seized and its occupants arrested.
A total of $6000 found on the property and $200,000 worth of jewellery hidden in a safe were also seized, including a ruby and diamond necklace with an approximate value of $49,100.
