The 36-year-old has been released from hospital and is now facing numerous charges, including three counts of aggravated wounding, aggravated assault, burglary, reckless driving and failing to stop.
He is expected to appear in the Auckland District Court on Saturday, Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe said in a statement on Friday.
It comes just hours after a woman was arrested in relation to the carjacking rampage and charged with aggravated assault and burglary. She was expected to appear in court on Friday afternoon.
A 36-year-old woman, who was located at the address, was taken into custody, Pascoe said. The woman was charged with aggravated assault and burglary in relation to the incident, and appeared in Auckland District Court on Friday. The stand-off unfolded on Thursday morning after a BMW X5 was stolen from the Youth Garage car dealership in Penrose. The man then crashed the car on Great South Rd, held a gun to the head of a member of the public and stole their car, police said. He ran over the person’s foot as he drove away, assistant commissioner Richard Chambers said.

A 22-year-old woman has admitted threatening an attack against the University of Otago which promised to surpass the March 15 terror attack. The threat resulted in graduation ceremonies at the university being postponed, affecting thousands of students. The woman, who has name suppression, appeared at Auckland District Court on Tuesday where she admitted threatening to carry out a firearms and explosives attack against students in Dunedin on December 7 and 8. The charging document alleges she threatened a violent act of a “magnitude surpassing the March 15 Christchurch mosque massacres”.

Shocking footage has captured the moment a woman rammed her car into a police vehicle after allegedly trying to run over a pedestrian minutes earlier.
The 60-year-old woman was seen driving her blue car erratically on the wrong side of the street near Princes Wharf in Auckland at about 8am on Wednesday morning.
Officers chased the car on foot and shouted at the woman to stop before she sped off down the street.
She then performed a U-turn and drove straight back into the parked police vehicle, smashing the passenger side window.
The woman was then dragged out of her car and arrested before being charged with assault with a weapon and driving a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner.
