Anthony Willoughby, 48, appeared to be in extreme pain and covered in bruises as he appeared before Oxford magistrates on Saturday afternoon. Prosecutor Ben May said the Abingdon man was accused of attacking a neighbour in Matthews Way, Wootton, with a police-style baton after telling him ‘I’m coming for you’. The alleged assault took place on July 15. Appearing before Oxford Magistrates’ Court, Willoughby, who gave an alternative address of The Motte, Abingdon, pleaded not guilty to possession of an offensive weapon and common assault.

Inset: DCI James Senior of Thames Valley Police ALMOST 20 people on Oxford police s most wanted list have been arrested in a week-long blitz. Among the 18 arrested by officers this month were wanted on suspicion of stalking, robbery and assault. Det Ch Insp James Senior of Oxford CID, who led the operation, said officers had managed to find a number of suspected domestic abusers. Asked what the operation meant for abusers and victims, the senior detective told the Oxford Mail: “For perpetrators, clearly, if you’re the type of person who’s willing to commit these types of violent acts or be abusive financially or emotionally then there is a very good chance we will come into contact and we will take every action available to us to arrest you.
