Thomas popped into an online meeting on Monday to tell Andrea Foreman of Wilmington, Delaware, about the award that will cover tuition, room and board for four years at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi.
This is the second year for Belhaven to award the Angie Thomas Writers Scholarship to a student who will major in creative writing.

Angie Thomas of Jackson, a New York Times best-selling author, surprised a student Monday with a full-ride scholarship to her alma mater, Belhaven University.
Andrea Foreman, from Wilmington, Delaware, was named the winner of the Angie Thomas Writers Scholarship for her writing submissions.
The announcement was made in an online meeting.
“Reading Andrea’s writing was truly a joy,” said Thomas in a media release Tuesday. “She is a gifted writer, and I have no doubt that she will impact others with her gift.”
Foreman is the second student to win the scholarship, which covers tuition, room and board for four years. “Honestly, I’m so excited!” said Foreman in a media release. “It’s a dream come true to win a full-ride scholarship and attend a university dedicated to creative writing.”
