Elections to Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) is underway with ruling Awami League optimistic about victory and BNP proceeding with caution.
The voting to the port city and Bangladesh’s economic capital that started at 8am will continue till 4pm, source at Election Commission said.
The Election Commission (EC) completed all necessary preparations to hold the election in a free, fair and credible manner, said its Senior Secretary Md Alamgir on Tuesday.
A total of 237 contestants, including seven mayoral candidates, 173 councillor runners and 57 aspirants for 14 women reserved seats, are there in the election race.

Man killed in ‘gunfight’ between 2 groups of Rohingyas at Cox’s Bazar refugee camp

A Rohingya man was killed in an alleged gunfight between two groups of Rohingya at a refugee camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox s Bazar early today.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Jabed (20), son Mohammad Islam of Tanjimarakhola camp under Palongkhali union in Ukhiya, said a police official.
Shihab Kaiser Khan, commanding fficer of Armed Police Battalion (APBn)-8 said the gunfight took place between two groups of Rohingyas in block 8 of Tanjimarakhola camp around 3:00am.

On January 22, 2020, a Rohingya man suspected to be a Yaba trader was killed during a gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh in Bandarban, Chittagong. The 25-year-old Yaba peddler, who belonged to the Kutupalong Rohingya camp, was entering Bangladesh from a hilly area of Myanmar with a group of eight to ten people when he was apprehended by the BGB.
