NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says people in the Cumberland and Blacktown local government areas will be subject to the same rules as Fairfield, Liverpool and Canterbury-Bankstown residents, meaning workers are not allowed to leave their local areas unless they are on the list of authorised workers.
Restrictions will be tightened even further across western Sydney as cases continue to rise amid the city’s current COVID-19 outbreak that Ms Berejiklian declared a “national emergency” on Friday.

The government says the additional restrictions are necessary to stem the spread of COVID-19 as the outbreak continues to worsen.
The rules will come into effect from 12.01am on Saturday. Can I stress that we really want everybody to follow these orders, to make sure that we contain the virus within these local government areas, the premier said.
Ms Berejiklian said that NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant regards the number of cases in Sydney s south-west and west as a national emergency .
Ms Berejiklian said the state government crisis cabinet met this morning to tighten restrictions.
She urged workers in western Sydney to check if their occupation made them essential workers.

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has described Sydney’s outbreak as “a national emergency” after another 136 new Covid-19 cases were recorded on Friday and an elderly man died with the virus. As the outbreak continues to worsen, health officials have recommended vaccines be urgently redirected to prioritise south-western and western suburbs. There were 53 people who were infectious in the community, the highest since the outbreak began, and 17 in isolation for part of the time.
