Of the 111 cases, at least 29 were infectious in the community. Unfortunately, this number is stubborn and it won t go down, Ms Berejiklian says. We have certainly prevented thousands and thousands of cases but we haven t managed to quash the curve.

New South Wales has recorded 97 new coronavirus cases, taking the state’s latest outbreak to more than 1000 infections in a month.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said is it concerning that 29 of the new cases were in the community while infectious. That number of people being infectious in the community keeps going up, she said. Unfortunately, the Fairfield local government area is still seeing more than, or around three quarters of cases but we are also seeing an extension of cases in adjoining suburbs.
The isolation status of the five other cases remain under investigation.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said there is no doubt that the numbers are not where we would like them and due to the high number of people in the community while infectious, she expected Saturday s numbers to be higher again.
She also hinted at the further tightening of restrictions. Please know that every day, on an hourly basis, we receive ongoing reviews and we make sure we review all the time the settings we have in place.

Two sets of modelling suggest the Sydney outbreak could continue for more than two months as NSW signals an even harder lockdown following “incredible concern” that dozens of cases are still infectious in the community.
Sydney recorded 97 new local cases on Friday, up significantly from 65 on Thursday, and 29 were in the community for the whole period they were infectious, up from 28.

New modelling from the University of Sydney estimated that only 40 per cent of people were complying with restrictions based on NSW case data and that even with 70 per cent compliance, it would take more than two months to bring the outbreak under control.
