Published May 12, 2021 10:57am Health Secretary Francisco Duque III on Wednesday assured the public that there will be no wastage of the newly-arrived 2 million doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine which are set to expire in June and July. Duque made the statement in an ANC interview after the National COVID-19 Vaccine Operations Center said that 1.5 million AstraZeneca doses will expire on June 30 and 525,000 doses will perish on July 31. “We will make sure nothing will expire. It will all be jabbed, it will all be used for inoculating our A1 to complete the health care workers, the A2 for the senior citizens, and the adults with comorbidities,” he said.

“I will recommend that certainly, but I am in touch with our WHO (World Health Organization) country representative in the same manner that we have expanded our travel ban beyond India… Rest assured I will make that recommendation.” said Health Secretary Francisco Duque III in an interview over ABS-CBN News Channel on Wednesday, May 12.
On Tuesday, the DOH announced that the B.1.617 variant of coronavirus was detected on two returning overseas Filipinos. The two individuals came from Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
Currently, the Philippine government imposed a travel ban to inbound passengers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

The National Covid-19 Vaccine Operations Center said 1.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will expire by June 30, 2021 while 525,000 others cannot be used beyond July 31 2021.
Duque said 525,600 doses will be administered as second dose while the rest will be used as first dose.
