Arkansas unemployment rates stay at a standstill for third month straight

Arkansas unemployment numbers rank better than the national unemployment average, which stands at 5.9%. Author: Bailey Devane Updated: 7:10 PM CDT July 16, 2021 ARKANSAS, USA The latest statistics from the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services says Arkansas unemployment rates have been at a standstill of 4.4% since May. Arkansas withdrew from the Federal Supplemental Unemployment Assistance Program in June to try and encourage people to go back to work. The program offered an extra $300 on top of regular unemployment payments. Arkansans no longer receive the extra stipend, but numbers have not improved.    Joe Rollins, with the NWA Council, says there are over 10,000 jobs available in NWA.

Arkansas Unemployment Rate Stable at 4.4% For 3rd Straight Month, Still Lower Than National Rate LITTLE ROCK – Arkansas’s unemployment rate remained at 4.4 percent for the third straight month, according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, which the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services released today. Arkansas’s unemployment rate is three and four-tenths of a percentage point lower than the national rate, which rose from 5.8 percent in May to 5.9 percent in June. “Our 4.4 percent unemployment rate continues to be significantly below the national rate of 5.9 percent,” Governor Hutchinson said today. “In fact, the national rate has been moving in the wrong direction. While employers are searching for workers to keep their businesses in operation or to expand, the shortage of workers reflects a hesitancy of some to return to the workforce. Unemployment in Arkansas was 8.5% a year ago as the pandemic strangled the economy. Ten industry sectors reported growth from April to May, and Arkansas nonfarm payroll jobs are up 70,500 compared with a year ago, the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services announced.
