Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) met in a closed session with its cannabis commission Tuesday in the first of two meetings planned for this week. The four hour session went over the proposed SNEC cannabis “law” that SNEC says will oversee the sale and production of cannabis. SNEC’s cannabis commission has been under a cloud of controversy since it was established in 2019 that has seen inner turmoil leading to the complete turnover of the board with the exception of the chair Nahnda Garlow. The closed meeting Tuesday was to look over proposed changes to the cannabis regulations that have been under study by consultations for almost three years. SIX NATIOSN OF THE GRAND RIVER-Six Nations front line heath care workers, emergency service workers and high risk community members can preregister for a COVID-19 vaccine soon as part of the community’s vaccine rollout plan.
Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) approved a vaccine matrix for the community with four phases for the vaccine rollout at a special council meeting on February, 19.
Zach Miller Administrative Director at Six Nations Family Health Team at Six Nations Health Services said the matrix was created very organically and leaves room for people to move into different segments due to their own personal medical conditions, but the most important thing for the community to take away from the discussion is that people, vaccinated or not, must still adhere to public health guidelines including, continuing to social distance and wear a mask.

Six Nations of the Grand River-Students on Six Nations won’t return to school this year and childcare centres will not reopen until the community is out of the Black Alert Level.
Federal schools on Six Nations of the Grand River will remain closed until September, the decision from Six Nations Elected Council was made at a special council meeting held on Friday, February 19, wherein Reva Bomberry, principal of I.L. Thomas Elementary School recommended the schools remain closed because of COVID-19 cases in the community.

The Six Nations Cannabis Commission (SNCC) appointed three new commissioners to its board in January, to leave only one of its five seats open, with Nahnda Garlow continuing to chair the commission. Garlow did not explain what happened to two commission members appointed late last year. SNCC added Natasha Clarkson and Duane Jacobs, SNEC’s communication and policy director.
