New COVID-19 cases and deaths are going down nationwide after a devastating January spike, but inside many hospitals, health care workers on the front lines are grappling with their own mental health.
At Riverside University Health System Medical Center just outside Los Angeles, California, numerous doctors and nurses there have reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

RIVERSIDE, CA Since the pandemic began last March, Riverside County has reported 271,910 COVID-19 cases, and 3,091 deaths, according to the Riverside University Health System.
The agency does not provide updated statistics on the weekend.
On Friday, health officials reported 1,805 newly confirmed coronavirus cases and 33 additional virus-related deaths, while the number of hospitalizations continued to decline.

The number of coronavirus hospitalizations countywide was at 1,128 Friday, down 63 from Thursday. That includes 290 patients being treated in intensive-care unit beds, down 27 from Thursday.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA Hospitalizations connected to COVID-19 continue to trend downward in Riverside County as officials reported the death toll from the virus rose above 3,000 Wednesday.
Total virus-related fatalities stood at 3,003, according to Riverside University Health System data, although the deaths are trailing indicators due to delays processing death certificates that typically cover three-to four-week periods.
The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations countywide was at 1,238, down 27 from Tuesday, the RUHS data showed. The figure includes 315 patients being treated in intensive-care unit beds, down four from the day before.
