Islamic Center offering walk-in COVID-19 vaccines during Friday prayer

View Comments EAST LANSING  The Islamic Center of East Lansing is partnering with Rite Aid to administer walk-in vaccinations during Friday prayers at the center part of a wider effort to reach the area s Muslim population. Last month, the center surveyed 396 people who attended prayers there. Of that group, 36% said they were not yet vaccinated, according to Thasin Sardar, a trustee at the center. Rite Aid pharmacists will administer first-dose Morderna shots on Friday. Second-dose appointments will be made for patients at a Rite Aid store. We feel that it is a communal responsibility for us to be a part of the solution to get everyone vaccinated to reach herd immunity, Sardar said.
