Ontario Vaccine Plan Released

Dec 30, 2020 7:15 AM Some Indigenous communities in northern Ontario will be part of the first phase in the rollout of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. A pilot project will be done in communities along the James Bay coast where long-term care homes exist. Retired General Rick Hillier says they’ll use it as a jumping off point to others in the north. “We do have, I think it’s 31 communities that you can fly into only, and then look at how we roll across the northern part of Ontario with the continuation of that program and ensure that we get to as many people as possible.”

NetNewsLedger - Thunder Bay Municipal Emergency Control Group Prepares for Vaccine Distribution

NetNewsLedger 562 December 30, 2020 – The City’s Municipal Emergency Control Group (MECG) met today with community partners as part of its ongoing management of the COVID-19 situation. Discussion included the initial preparations in anticipation of a broadening of the vaccine rollout. As the city nears the end of the first week of a two-week, provincially mandated lockdown to January 9, the MECG wants to remind residents that all indoor events and gatherings are not permitted, except with members of the same household. The number of cases of COVID-19 in the city have levelled off. However the positivity rate on testing is at two percent this week, slightly up from last week when it was 1.5%.

John Derek Wyant

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts the family of Dr. John Derek Wyant (“Derek”) announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, December 22nd, 2020 with his family by his side. Derek was an extraordinary man - devoted husband, father, grandfather (and most excited to be a great-grandfather to a beautiful baby girl due in March 2021), brother, son, friend, surgeon, teacher, leader, mentor and administrator. He was known as “Doc Wyant” to many of his patients, “Jekyll” and “Tex” to his friends and precious “Popeye” to his beautiful grandchildren. He had an amazing sense of humour, creating numerous nicknames for family members, friends and colleagues – many still use them to this day.

The province did not report new COVID-19 case numbers yesterday. At least 78 deaths related to the coronavirus were recorded in the last 48-hours, which pushes the provincial death toll to 4,455. Phase 1 Vaccines are available to health care workers and essential caregivers who work in hospitals, long-term care homes, retirement homes,  and other congregate settings caring for seniors
