THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced eight new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, bringing the total number confirmed here since the pandemic began to 600.
The number of active cases in the district continued to decline, if only slightly, to 57.
Seven of the cases announced Sunday involved individuals in Thunder Bay and the surrounding areas, while one was in a district community. One individual was hospitalized with the virus in the ICU as of Sunday morning.

THUNDER BAY – An untold number of residents and staff have been exposed to COVID-19 at the Southbridge Roseview long-term care home, already hit with a major outbreak and 19 related deaths, after an infected staff member was improperly allowed to report to work.
Southbridge Care Homes offered few details when questioned about the incident, which occurred on Dec. 30.
In an email obtained by tbnewswatch.com, Southbridge vice-president Beryl Collingwood apologized to the family member of a Roseview resident, saying the breach was a result of “human error.”
Ontario is smashing another record for the most COVID-19 cases in a single day.
The province is reporting 3,363 cases today, and 2,476 cases were reported yesterday. There was no update yesterday because of the New Year’s Day holiday.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is announcing seven new cases in Thunder Bay and the surrounding communities. Just one of those cases is from today, while the rest were diagnosed yesterday.
The number of active cases in that area continues to drop, with 17 resolved as of Friday. That brings the active case count to 58.
The Northwestern Health Unit reports it has 19 active cases.

THUNDER BAY – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Hogarth Riverview Manor- Birch/Spruce Grove Resident Home Area.
According to the Thunder Bay District Health Unit in a release issued on Friday, a single staff member was recently confirmed to have contracted COVID-19, and under provincial health measures, that’s enough to declare an outbreak at the facility, a long-term care residence.
A thorough assessment of the situation is underway by the health unit, in collaboration with St. Joseph’s Care Group, which includes enhanced surveillance and testing activities on site.
